🪖 ANZAC Poppies 🥀

For the past few weeks for ANZAC day, room 10 has been learning about the different coloured poppies and their meanings. We were given a link to research the poppies and afterwards, we had to write a school newspaper article. For me, I did a different paragraph for each poppy and I thought I explained it to the best of my abilities. I was happy with my work so I showed the teacher and she said that we have to put it on a google video.

So thats what i did 😁

What do you think of my video? Could I have done anything better?

And did you guys know about these poppies? And what one is your favourite?

🎪Circus Mayhem!!

Coming up the year 7/8s are going to do a dance competition between other schools called Dancing Like The Stars, the type of dance we have been practising is circus; thanks to Lisa and Chris – they have been the ones teaching us all. We walked from our school to the New Brighton hall and there is where weve done our lessons, so far we have only has two sessions but I think its going really well and we are learning heaps!

So far we have done Poi, Diabolo, Hula Hoops, And some things like Acrobatics.

Poi was really cool, we swung around this black rope with a poi on the end attached to a ribbon. It looked really cool as we swung it in circles and different directions really fast; it was definitely one of my favourites! We did things like circles in front of us, beside us, above our heads; and criss-cross. My friends and I also got into a line and tried to make a ribbon wave effect, we got someone to stand in front and see how it looks and we were told to keep working on it because it looks pretty cool.

Next we did Diabolo – also called a Chinese Yo Yo. And its shape was like a hourglass, there was a string that was tied to two sticks that goes underneath the slimmer part of the hourglass shape. The first thing we learnt was to throw the Diabolo in the air and catch it. To do this you have to lift up the string, and thats what lifts the hourglass. For me, the right side was my dominate hand for this, and you pump your hand up and down – this makes the Diabolo spin; If you want your Diabolo to spin faster you wrap your string around the Diabolo while your pumping your hand. Once its going pretty fast your unwrap your string while continuing to pump your hand and you pull the string really tight really fast throwing it up in the air. To catch it you hold your string on and angle, so the slimmer part of the Diabolo lands on the string and slides down.

After that we went into hula hooping. The first thing we did was making the hula hoop go around our hand; I got most of the skills straight away because i did hula hooping alot as a kid. We circled the hula hoop on our hand going around our body’s doing criss crosses, above our heads; and to the side. After we did some throwing and catching with the person opposite us. The person I was with was Farrah, and we did pretty good in my opinion, throwing and catching on beat with ease. Later when we had done that we hula hooped around our waist, and our instructor Lisa told us that we could hoop easier around our waist if we move out hips back and forth.

Overall I think this is really fun and I cant wait to do it again next week.

What skill sounds the most fun?

What skill would you do?

🥳 Thank You Duffy!! 📚

Today, wonderful Eman Ghandour came and told us a bit about herself, and duffy, and how lucky we are to get books from Duffy! I think it was really cool how she and her mum and sisters started up a buisness, Called Sisters – I think, and she said that she counted all her cousins and there was 97!! Thats alot. And I love the books I got; I´m really excited to read Be Prepared, it sounds really cool and will put a new perspective on things.

Be prepared – its a twisted tale about Nala looking for Simba when he was supposedly dead, and getting some unexpected help from Scar.

Resist – Now this book is about a teenage girl being a spy to help her country, France, from the attack of the Germans.

What is your favourite book?

Guess what!? Schools back…😩

Ok, so we are only a week into school – and so far so good I guess. The year 8 math isn’t too hard and my friends are still as weird as ever. This year feels alot more special this year because its our last year and it really feels real. And I love being in the leadership roles it makes me feel really responsible and like a real leader of the school. Im excited for this school camp because its my last one here at NBC, we are going to Glentui for the first time, and Im in a cabin with my besties Despina, Leisha, Kiara, and Zara.

What have you guys liked about school this year?

✈ 2026 Wellington Planning Trip 🏝

Hello!!

For the past week the year 7s have been planning for the 2026 wellington trip. We had to plan transport, activities, and funding. Mr Gray’s most liked funding idea was a big spelling bee – Of Course. 🤣 Overall I think it was really fun to plan and I feel very excited about going. My least favourite part was having to do it – it just got boring at points.

What would you do in wellington? Any recommendations?

🏏Canterbury Cricket Flashback😃

Kia Ora!

Last year, the year 5/6s went to a cricket festival and versed some other schools. It was so fun! We had four games and eight halves, we had 1 before morning tea, 2 before lunch and 1 after lunch. I was put in group NBC 3 with Brenna, Elise, Saffron, Lee, Jack and Henry. Jack, Henry and Lee played cricket in their own time and they were really good. It was easy to tell because Jack was a good bowler and Henry was a good batter. We first versed Rawhiti 8 and they were pretty easy, but the Rawhiti 20 group was slightly better. After those two we played Rawhiti 4 and they were pretty competitive.

Looking back this was really fun and I’d do it again but with more of my friends.

The Loop-A-Thon

Yesterday, on the 4th of December we went to the Christchurch United Football Club fields. we were the first people to arrive and run. we got changed into our colourful costumes and put on face paint to give it pizzazz.

we ran around a obstacle course there was about 9 or 10 challenges to overcome a lot were climb over things and crawling under things.

A part of the course was a bouncy castle we had to get across a course that we had to jump on balls and get across. my favourite part was when we did the slip and slide, and my least favourite part was the fences we had to jump over.

Have you gone on a slip and slide?

🧙 Book Character Day!!! 📚

One day at New Brighton Catholic school we morphed into different and extraordinary and unique book characters. Okay – I get how I sound crazy – but let me fill you in on what really happened. It Was Book Character Day!! If you don’t know already, book Character Day is where you can dress up as a book Character for a day at school. Me and my friends all remembered to dress up, Farrah and Brenna went as bluey and bingo, Leisha dressed as Matilda, Kiara dressed as Cat in the Hat, Zara went as Victor to match with Leah and I who went as Stewart and Bob the minions. In the morning we paraded in front of the other classes so we could see what each other were wearing, and to see if we could get a prize for best dressed. Sadly I didn’t get one, but my friend Leisha did! After the parade we went to the hall to look at some books to see if we wanted any – a book swap. At first I didn’t see anything I liked but then I saw this book called Vacancy, so I swapped with Farrah for a book called Mirror Mirror – which is a twisted tale about Snow White. The rest of the day we sorta just chilled and had fun. My favourite part was probably scootering with our teacher Mr Gray. He stole my scooter and ran away with Farrah, so I went and stole my sisters scooter, so together we paraded around and called ourselves the scooter brigade. And my least favourite part was chilling – that bit was boring.

If you did what did you dress up as for book Character Day?

🧸 MARKET DAY 💚

This week we had our schools market day where I had a stall with my friend Farrah. We made$ 43 dollars we were selling old stuff we found around the house. I would say there was about 16 or 17 stalls in total, there was also a sausage sizzle drinks table and a bake sale.

There was a guess how many sesame street characters in a box and a raffle. My favourite part was looking at all the different stalls and eating pretzels and croissants. we are fundraising for the year 8 leavers dinner.

There was a sweet as waffle truck and Ice cream cones!

Here is a photo!

how much money do you think we made over all?

🇳🇿 CULTURAL DAYYY 🇲🇽

Hola!

Today New Brighton Catholic Catholic school dressed up in a culture of our choice for cultural day. First we had to sit through assembly and we got a few representatives to say welcome in their language. After that we went outside where all the classes paraded in their cultural dress up. Then Korean class performed a dance to A.P.T, and then we danced to Head, Shoulders, Knees, And Toes in Korean. Then once we had finished that my friend Brenna, and her sister Willa did some Irish dancing which was really cool. Did you know Brenna went to nationals and finished fourth. Finally, the kapa haka finished it off with a wiata and then a haka. I loved doing this because it was really fun and interesting, but one thing I didn’t like that much was… Nothing really.

Zara, Leisha, and I dressed up Mexican. Here is our slideshow on Mexico, and here is a photo of the friend group dressed up.

Did you dress up?

What would you dress up as?
